These pictures were taken on Aug. 16, 1886. These are the death photographs of Sri Ramakrishna.

Narendra Nath Datta (later Swami Vivekananda) stands in the center (with hands together) along with the other disciples and devotees of Ramakrishna, at Cossipore, August 16, 1886.

The photo was taken at the behest of Dr. Mahendralal Sarkar, Ramakrishna’s physician. The group is posed standing before the body of Ramakrishna, prior to cremation.

The photos were taken by the Bengal Photographers Studio. There are at least two photos, possibly more.  Some of the published photographs seem to have been ‘retouched’ prior to publication in various books over the years.
