Exhortations

In the works and recorded utterances of Swami Vivekananda are found many inspiring statements made to his followers and students. These are calls to action. They are poetic and can be thrilling when read aloud. Some of these ‘exhortations’ can be found in this post.

1.

Awake! Awake! all ye who would drink of the divine nectar!

2.

To work! In full speed, and with undaunted zeal.

3.

No more weeping, but stand on your feet and be men.

4.

The time is come to act.  The call is now.  Do! Leap into the breach and save the world!

5.

To work, with undaunted energy! What fear! Who is powerful enough to thwart you!

6.

We must create a stir, nothing short of this will do. You will be throwing the whole world into convulsion.

7.

Is there a greater strength than that of Brahmacharya–purity, my boy?

8.

All the powers of good against all the powers of evil–this is what we want.

9.

Hurl yourselves on the world like an avalanche–let the world crack in twain under your weight!

10.

What makes you weep, my friend? In you is all power. Summon up your all-powerful nature, O mighty one, and this whole universe will lie at your feet. It is the Self alone that predominates, and not matter.

11.

Let people say whatever they like, stick to your own convictions, and rest assured, the world will be at your feet.

12.

Arise! Awake! and stop not until the goal is reached.
